PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic endoscope apparatus capable of detecting a foreign substance attached to a distal end of an electronic endoscope to thereby avoid a temperature rise of the distal end.SOLUTION: The electronic endoscope apparatus includes: a light source that emits illumination light a plurality of light guides for guiding the illumination light emitted from the light source to the distal end of the electronic endoscope a light quantity controller that is provided between the light source and the plurality of light guides and controls the quantity of the illumination light incoming from the light source to each of the light guides and a control means for controlling the light quantity controller to estimate a light quantity ratio of the illumination light guided by each of the light guides and determine, based on the light quantity ratio, whether there is a foreign substance attached to the distal end of the electronic endoscope.
