Formulations and methods are provided for improving the function, i.e. clinical outcome, of solid organ transplants. Lung transplantation is of particular interest. In the methods of the invention, a nanoparticle formulation comprising an effective dose of an iron chelator active agent in nanoparticle form, including without limitation, deferoxamine (DFO), deferasirox (DFX), and deferiprone (DFP), etc. is topically applied to the surface of tissues during episodes of graft rejection.Linvention concerne des formulations et des procédés pour améliorer la fonction, à savoir le résultat clinique, de greffes dorgane solide. La greffe du poumon est particulièrement intéressante. Dans les procédés de linvention, une formulation de nanoparticule comprenant une dose efficace dun principe actif chélateur du fer sous forme nanoparticulaire, comprenant sans limitation, la déféroxamine (DFO), le déférasirox (DFX) et la défériprone (DFP), etc. est appliquée de façon topique à la surface de tissus pendant les épisodes de rejet de greffe.
