The invention relates to the use of 20-(4-carboxyphenyl)-2,13-dimethyl-3,12- diethyl-[22] pentaphyrine as antibacterial agent in photodynamic treatment. This expanded porphyrin derivatized in position 4 with a carboxyphenyl group proved very active after photo-oxidation both against S. aureus and E. hirae. Its high antibacterial activity and its low toxicity make this pentaphyrine particularly useful as antimicrobial agent both for photodynamic therapy against bacterial infections and in the disinfection of microbiologically contaminated liquids.L'invention porte sur l'utilisation de 20-(4-carboxyphényl)-2,13-diméthyl-3,12-diéthyl-[22]-pentaphyrine comme agent antibactérien dans un traitement photodynamique. Cette porphyrine agrandie dont on a formé un dérivé en position 4 avec un groupe carboxyphényle s'est avérée très active après photo-oxydation à la fois vis-à-vis de S. aureus et d'E. hirae. Son activité antibactérienne élevée et sa faible toxicité rendent cette pentaphyrine particulièrement utile comme agent antimicrobien à la fois pour une thérapie photodynamique contre des infections bactériennes et dans la désinfection de liquides microbiologiquement contaminés.
