A bed comprises a plurality of panel assemblies positioned adjacently, each panel assembly having a first and second bed plate capable of being lowered and elevated, each bed plate capable of accommodating a cushion member and a crank mechanism provided on both sides of the panel assembly, the crank mechanism enabling at-least one of the bed plates to be lowered and elevated at predetermined time intervals. The bed keeps minimum number of joints of a human body especially a bed-ridden patient in contact with the bed, and reduces or prevents the development of pressure sores. Reference figure 1.
