The present invention relates to a pharmaceutical composition comprising midodrine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof as an active component for preventing or treating diabetes. The composition comprising midodrine or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt thereof increases absorption of glucose to skeletal muscle cells by increasing expression of p-AMPK, PPAR-, and PGC-1 which play fundamental roles to maintain and adjust metabolic activity in vivo.
