The present invention refers to an ear inspection device (100) configured for being at least partially introduced into a subjects external ear canal for determining a condition of the subjects ear, such as temperature, in particular at the subjects eardrum, wherein the ear inspection device (100) comprises an infrared sensor unit (140) configured for detecting infrared radiation from the subjects ear, and further comprises an electronic imaging unit (140) configured for capturing images based on radiation in the visible range from the subjects ear, wherein the electronic imaging unit (40 140) exhibits at least one optical axis (X X1, X2) which is arranged such that it can be positioned radially offset within the ear canal, and wherein the infrared sensor unit (52 140) exhibits a visual axis (X5) which is arranged such that it can be positioned centrically within the ear canal or radially offset within the same semicircle, especially the same quadrant, of the cross section of the ear canal. The invention further refers to a corresponding method of determining a condition of a subjects ear, such as temperature, in particular at the subjects eardrum.
