The present invention provides a foot and mouth disease (FMD) vaccine comprising a vaccinating entity comprising or capable of expressing a foot and mouth disease virus (FMDV) VP1 polypeptide having a deletion of at least seven amino acids in the G-H loop such that the VP1 polypeptide lacks an RGD motif.
