[0052] Abstract [0053] The present invention provides a composition comprising at least one of 25-hydroxy vitamin D3 or 1, 25- dihydroxy vitamin D3 for treatment of ocular diseases. The invention also provides quantitative analysis of vitamin levels including vitamin D in tear fluid for its use in diagnosis and prognosis of ocular surface conditions. Topical ocular delivery is effective in treatment of ocular diseases such as dry eye disease, ocular surface pain and keratoconus. The invention also provides an analysis of correlation between vitamin D levels in tear fluid with dry eye disease in humans. The analysis showed inverse correlation of vitamin D with dry eye disease symptoms. The composition is also effective in reducing ocular surface pain and levels of pro-inflammatory and pro-nociceptive cytokines and chemokines. The composition further reduces the inflammation in the eye and is effective against keratoconus. (FIGURE 2)
