A treat dispensing system to dispense treats to animals, for example adomestic pet, comprises a treat dispenser controlled by a user controller. Thetreatdispenser includes a housing having a hollow interior having at least oneaperture todispense treats. A treat advancer is operable to advance a treat from astorage area toa chute, for example via an advancer or actuator, such as a motor, controlledby anadvancer controller. The advancer controller is controlled by a treatdispensercontroller, which is in turn controlled by the user controller. The usercontroller maycomprise a remote control, cordless telephone, cellular telephone, PDA,networkconnected desktop or laptop computer, for example. The treat dispensercontroller mayfurther comprise a camera and loudspeaker. The camera may capture an image orvideo. The loudspeaker may permit the user to cause provide sounds to emanatein thevicinity of the treat dispenser. The user can remotely, via the usercontroller, initiate theadvancer such that the treat advancer advances to align the treat storage withthe chuteso that a treat held within the treat storage area is dispensed via the chutethe aperturein the housing to the external environment.
