A method for producing self-binding pigment particles, comprising the following steps: a) providing an aqueous suspension of the mineral pigment material; b) providing at least one polymer binder, wherein said binder contains at least one modified polysaccharide having a degree carboxylation in the range from 0.4 to 2.0 and an intrinsic viscosity in the range from>; 300 to 500 ml / g; c) mixing the binder stage b) with an aqueous suspension of the mineral pigment material of stage a) and is regulated e the solids content of the resulting suspension, so that it is from ≥45 to 95% by weight (preferably 45 to 80% by weight) based on the total weight of the suspension; d) grinding the aqueous suspension of the mineral material of step c) .2 .
