The invention relates to an appliance for separating and releasing the root system of plants in tree nurseries. So-called vibrating ploughs are known for this purpose. In these appliances, a grubbing cutter is set in oscillating movement and is drawn through under the root system. A disadvantage of these appliances is that only continuous rows of plants can be worked. The design according to the invention of a single-ball lifting-out and row-grubbing appliance now makes it possible to lift out the root balls of individual plants from the plant row, without cutting under the roots of the plants standing alongside. To generate a beating effect on the cutter, an eccentric shaft or an unbalanced shaft can be provided.
