Thymosin .beta.4 can be used to treat neuronal and brain injuries that areaccompanied by neuronal cell death or injury,including injuries caused by stroke or trauma and injuries caused byneurological and neurodegenerative disease. In particular,stroke and multiple sclerosis are examples of conditions which may beameliorated by treatment with thymosin .beta.4. Thymosin .beta.4has been found to restore neurological tissue through several effects onseveral neurological parameters which are improved byadministration of thymosin .beta.4 to a subject in need of neurological tissuerestoration. For example, thymosin .beta.4 improves axonalmyelination, migration of neural progenitor cells, neural progenitor cellproliferation, differentiation of neural progenitor cells intomature neurons, differentiation of neural progenitor cells into mature glia,nerve regeneration, and brain remodeling at locations ofbrain injury.
