An endoscopic system includes a flexible elongated insertion section (100). The insertion section is provided with a bending section (140, 142, 144). The bending section is bent by pulling and loosening of wires (180, 180a, 180b, 382, 384). A shape acquiring unit (270, 350, 550, 650) acquires a shape of the insertion section (100). A control unit (250) determines an adjustment value for an adjustment unit (230, 240, 238, 330) which adjusts tensile force applied to the wires based on the shape of the insertion section acquired by the shape acquiring unit and information stored in a memory unit (260), and controls the adjustment unit based on the adjustment value.
