An apparatus for balancing a statically unbalanced system, particularly useful in balancing X-ray and mammography systems having an X-ray source and detector mounted to a rotational arm, includes a spring mechanism which synchronizes the activation of the spring mechanism with the rotation of the arm of the mammography system. The balancing system reduces the amount of torque necessary to rotate the arm and decreases the overall inertia of the system by eliminating the need for counterweights to maintain balance of the system.Linvention concerne un appareil destiné à équilibrer un système présentant un déséquilibre statique, particulièrement utile dans léquilibrage de systèmes de radiographie et de mammographie comprenant une source et un détecteur de rayons X montés sur un bras de rotation, qui comprend un mécanisme à ressort qui synchronise lactivation du mécanisme à ressort avec la rotation du bras du système de mammographie. Le système déquilibrage réduit lampleur du couple nécessaire pour faire tourner le bras et diminue linertie totale du système en supprimant la nécessité de faire appel à des contrepoids pour maintenir léquilibre du système.
