The method of an individual carrying a casualty using a carrier apparatus in a hands-free manner involves inserting the individual’s arms through shoulder straps 114 of the carrier； supporting the casualty in a flexible panel 104 of the carrier, with the panel 104 extending between legs of the casualty, a first end edge 106 of the panel 104 located between the casualty and the individual and a second end edge 108 of the panel 104 located adjacent a back of the casualty； extending a pair of first securing straps 120, 122 connected to the panel 104 around sides of the individual； passing a pair of second securing straps 130, 132 connected to the second end 108 of the panel 104 over the shoulders of both the casualty and individual； and securing each one of the first securing straps 120, 122 to one of the second securing straps 130, 132.
