PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element enabling steam sterilization treatment under high temperature and high pressure to show resistance to contamination for steam under ultra-severe environment having high temperature and high pressure and achieve high durability.
SOLUTION: The optical element 1 is constituted by laminating, on a substrate 2, a high refraction layer 3 formed by ditantalum pentaoxide or hafnium dioxide, a low refractive index layer 4 formed by silicon oxide, and a high refractive index layer 5 formed by ditantalum pentaoxide or halnium dioxide and by laminating a contamination-resisting coating (fluorine compound) 6 having such thickness that does not affect the optical characteristics adversely on them.
