Preparing semi-aromatic polyester (PESA) powder or PESA, comprises forming a molten mixture comprising at least PESA and at least an additive (X) that is a block copolymer comprising at least a block A compatible with the PESA and at least a water soluble block B, where X is a AB or BAB type to obtain a discrete particle dispersion including the PESA, cooling the mixture at a temperature that is less than a softening temperature of the PESA, and treating the cooled mixture to cause the separation of the discrete particles including the PESA.
