The application provides, in one aspect, a method of inducing at least two events of tissue repair in an individual having tissue injury, comprising delivering an effective amount of a trace element to the injury site. In some embodiments, at least one event of tissue repair includes inducing migration of bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells to the site of injury. In some embodiments, the at least one event of tissue repair comprises inducing stem cell differentiation at the site of injury.
