Disclosed are an electrocardiogram apparatus and a method for detecting an R peak. The method of detecting an R peak from an electrocardiogram (ECG) signal according to the present invention includes: generating a first threshold signal having a relatively lower threshold value than a highest amplitude level among amplitude levels of each section of the ECG signal； generating a second threshold signal having a relatively lower threshold value than a highest amplitude level among gradient levels of each section of the ECG signal； and detecting an R peak section of the ECG signal based on the first and second signals. Therefore, the ECG apparatus uses threshold values with respect to the amplitude and the gradient lever of the ECG level to detect the R peak so the R peak can be accurately detected without error.R 피크 검출을 위한 심전도 장치 및 방법이 개시된다. 본 발명에 따른 심전도(Electrocardiogram : ECG) 신호로부터 R 피크 검출 방법에 있어서, 방법은 심전도 신호의 구간별 진폭 레벨 중 가장 높은 진폭 레벨보다 상대적으로 낮은 임계값을 포함하는 제1 임계 신호를 생성하는 단계, 심전도 신호의 구간별 기울기 레벨 중 가장 높은 기울기 레벨보다 상대적으로 낮은 임계값을 포함하는 제2 임계 신호를 생성하는 단계 및 제1 및 제2 임계 신호에 기초하여 상기 심전도 신호의 R 피크 구간을 검출하는 단계를 포함한다. 이에 따라, 심전도 장치는 심전도 신호의 진폭 레벨과 기울기 레벨 각각에 대한 임계값을 이용하여 R 피크를 검출함으로써, 오류 없이 정확한 R 피크를 검출할 수 있다.
