The present invention provides a method for producing Curcuma longa callus. The method consisting of providing explants of C. longa growing the selected explants of C. longa under sterile conditions generating/inducing callus cell cultures of C. longa from the selected explants of C. longa in a medium and sub-culturing said callus cell cultures of C. longa to obtain C. longa callus. The medium employed in the present method comprises Murashige-Skoog medium and a combination of 2, 4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2, 4-D) and 6-furfurylaminopurine (kinetin).
