FIELD: medicine, pharmaceutics.SUBSTANCE: group of inventions refers to an oral care composition and to a method for using the above composition for treating or preventing the dental calculus formation. The presented composition contains an anticalculous agent and an antibacterial agent containing a biphenol compound, which can be prepared of Magnolia officinalis； wherein the above composition is free from phosphate-containing anticalculous agents and polyphosphate-containing anticalculous agents； and wherein the anticalculous agents contain zinc oxide as a zinc ion source. The method of treating or preventing the dental calculus formation involves contacting the above composition with the oral cavity.
