PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide devices and methods to improve the effectiveness of transmucosal drug delivery.SOLUTION: An intralumenal device includes: a housing 12 configured for intralumenal deployment into a human or animal subject a drug-dispensing portion which contains at least one drug and a plurality of microneedles 26 extending, or being extendable from, the housing, the plurality of microneedles being configured to disrupt at least one region of a mucosal barrier adjacent to the housing at a selected time after being intralumenally deployed in the human or animal subject.
