Central venous catheter (CVC) with internal bacterial disinfection capability. According to some implementations, a CVC includes a main shaft configured to be placed inside a patient and an infusion shaft. The optical fiber including the first portion and the second portion is configured to emit germicidal light, the first portion being inside at least one of the main shaft and the infusion shaft. The CVC further includes a hub, the distal end of the infusion shaft being connected to the proximal end of the main shaft by a conduit located inside the hub. The hub has a first channel that houses a second portion of the first optical fiber.
