A packaging insert 800 configured to engage with a portion of a surgical drape for locating the drape on a surgical robot arm (300, Fig 3) comprises a body 802 and a retention portion 804 engageable with a drive transfer element (706/707/708, Fig 7A) of the drape (for transferring drive between the robot arm and a surgical instrument) for retaining the drive transfer element in a desired position. The packaging insert may be formed from a single piece of rigid or semi-rigid material and the retention feature may be a recess, an aperture, a protruding portion or a plurality of lips for engagement with a drape lip provided on the drape.
