A surgical fluid thermal treatment system can be used during a procedure to heat or cool surgical fluid, e.g., prior to introducing the fluid into the body of a patient. In some examples, the system includes an open basin into which fresh surgical fluid is dispensed and a heater that heats the fluid in the basin. The system may also include a volume measurement device that measures the volume of fluid in the basin. The system may have a user interface that a user interacts with to check fresh fluid into the basin. The user may also interact with the user interface to check medical tools into the basin and check medical tools out of the basin.
