In order to provide an inhaler for dispensing a powdered substance in which the metering chamber can be filled advantageously, according to the invention, the discharge duct (13) is rotatable about an axis of rotation (A), and the metering chamber (19) can be filled as the discharge duct (13) rotates. The invention further relates to a manually actuated inhaler (1) for dispensing a powdered substance, in particular a pharmaceutical substance, said inhaler (1) comprising a storage chamber (12), a mouthpiece (4), a discharge duct (13) and a metering chamber (19); the metering chamber (19) can be moved from a closed into an open state, and vice versa. The invention also relates to a manually actuated inhaler (1) for dispensing a powdered substance, in particular a pharmaceutical substance, said inhaler (1) comprising a discharge duct (13) in which a vortexing means (14) is arranged; the vortexing means has a spiraling wall and has to be penetrated when air containing the substance is dispensed.
