Various devices and methods for treating high-altitude sickness are disclosedherein. According to one embodiment,a handheld device delivers a therapeutic amount of nitric oxide to anindividual's lungs in order to minimize or treat high-altitudesickness. The device is self-contained and portable, which allows anindividual to carry and use the device in high-altitudeor other low-oxygen environments.
