This disclosure includes a method for treating a patient suffering from alcohol withdrawal. The method comprises administering an effective amount of oxygen to the patient and administering an effective amount of nitrous oxide to the patient. In some embodiments, the effective amount of oxygen and the effective amount of nitrous oxide are administered to the patient via a nitrous oxide sedation system.
