An apparatus and method for ultrasonic cleaning of objects such as medical or surgical devices optionally having a lumen comprises a tank 10 for holding cleaning liquid, the tank 10 having at least one first wall 6 and a bottom 12 and being adapted to hold cleaning liquid and to expose the cleaning liquid to ultrasound preferably using transducers, a weir 16 opposite and parallel to the first wall 6, a first channel 19 adjacent and proximal to the weir 16 and distal with respect to the tank, a first drain 20 located in said first channel 19 for draining cleaning liquid that spills over the weir 16, a second channel 32 in the form of a depression in the bottom of the tank and a second drain 30 located in the second channel 32 for draining cleaning liquid from the tank. First and second skimmers 26, 28 may be present to direct and debris towards the first and second drains 20, 30. The apparatus may be associated with a rinsing tank.
