To provide a hair pigment enhancer that acts on cells involved in hair dye formation to promote the formation of hair pigments and can prevent/improve gray hair. According to the present invention, there is provided a hair pigment enhancer comprising as an effective ingredient at least one of gallic acid and a gallic acid derivative. The gallic acid derivative is preferably hydrolyzable tannin, such as tara tannin and gallnut tannin, and more preferably contains saccharides, amino acids, vitamins, coenzymes, minerals, saponins such as quillaja saponin, a plant seed extract from bean subfamily Mucuna, etc.本發明係提供作用於與毛髮色素形成相關之細胞而促進毛髮色素的生成,可防止/改善白髮之毛髮色素增強劑。一種毛髮色素增強劑,其係包含沒食子酸及沒食子酸衍生物之至少1種作為有效成分之一劑型。前述沒食子酸衍生物較佳為刺雲實單寧(tara tannin)及五倍子單寧等水解型單寧,再者,較佳係包含糖類、胺基酸類、維生素類、輔酵素類、礦物質類、或皂樹皂苷(quillaja saponin)等皂苷類、蝶形花亞科油麻藤屬植物種子萃取物等。
