Disclosed is a method for the preparation of crystalline duloxetine hydrochloride, the method comprising: (a) providing a solution of duloxetine free base in an organic solvent (b) mixing the organic solution with aqueous ammonium chloride solution and (c) acidifying the solution to a pH of 1 to 4 with hydrochloric acid.
