A system for providing a laser beam shot pattern to a living eye comprises a therapeutic laser for providing a laser beam and a controller in communication with the laser and controlling the laser beam so that a shot pattern (4) is generated on a living eye. The shot pattern comprises a pattern for providing an incision in a cornea (1) of the eye, for insertion of an instrument into the living eye, removal of lens material from the living eye and insertion of replacement lens material into the living eye. The incision has a cross sectional length and facing surfaces (5,6), whereby upon completion of an insertion and removal of the instrument or lens material at least a portion of the facing surfaces substantially contact each-other. The incision has an anterior start point and a posterior end point, the posterior end point positioned in Descemets membrane of the living eye and the cross sectional length of the incision being greater than a distance between the anterior start point and the posterior end point. The anterior start point is positioned a greater distance from an anterior posterior axis of the incision than the posterior end point.
