Die Funktion des Schnullers liegt darin, das Verhalten des Säuglings durch Überwachung des Nuckelns (=Saugen am Mundstück) und der Bewegung des Schnullers zu analysieren und durch die Ausgabe von haptischen oder akustischen Reizen zu verhindern, dass der Säugling in den plötzlichen Kindstod verfällt.
