PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a therapeutic agent of NAFLD and/or NASH containing a fermented essence obtained by symbiotic fermentation with lactic acid bacteria and yeast, or melanoidin contained in the fermented essence as an active ingredient.SOLUTION: The therapeutic agent for the NAFLD and/or the NASH includes melanoidin as an active ingredient which is contained in the fermented essence of polysaccharides, vegetables and fruits, and seaweeds with the lactic acid bacteria and the yeast. The melanoidin contained in the fermented essence, obtained by fermenting brown rice as the polysaccharides, papaya as the vegetables and fruits, and sea tangle and Nemacystus decipiens as the seaweeds with the lactic acid bacteria and the yeast for six months, and removing the microbial cells, exhibits ameliorating effects on the NAFLD and/or the NASH.
