The actuator is configured to retain a plurality of functionalized particles within the capsule in the first configuration. The actuator is further configured to advance a plurality of functionalized particles from the capsule via the at least one tissue permeable member and into the walls of the lumen of the gastrointestinal tract by an actuator that transitions from a first configuration to a second configuration.
