Contraceptive devices are described herein that provide substantially immediate and permanent infertility. Systems and methods for delivering a contraceptive device through the cervix are also described herein. The contraceptive device may include an inflatable implant. The implants include hydrogels that provide substantially immediate infertility and endogenous fibers that provide permanent infertility. As an alternative to, or in combination with, hydrogels, the implant may comprise copper or cupric ions to provide substantially immediate sterility.
