PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately detect the corneal reflection and the image of a facial region without depending on the optical environment in the periphery, and to improve the accuracy in detection of a pupil by preventing the irregularlity of the level of brightness in other areas than the pupil region in a difference image.
SOLUTION: The pupil detection method comprises: a fist step of transmitting the charge from a photoelectric conversion element to a first charge transmission part of an image sensor after the image sensor is exposed to the light in a first period while a subject is irradiated with a light source 21 by using image sensors C1 and C2 a second step of transmitting the charge from the photoelectric conversion element to a second charge transmission part after the image sensor is exposed to light while the light source is turned off in a second period continued from the first period a third step of outputting the charge transmitted to the first and second charge transmission parts by using a shift register and a fourth step of detecting the pupil by executing an image differencing process after obtaining a bright pupil image, an unilluminated image and a dark pupil image.
