A wound contacting member for negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT) selected to reduce pain when removed from the wound, the wound contacting member comprising a network of compressed elements separated by pores, and at least one attribute selected from the group consisting of of: at least 95% of the compressed elements having a thickness of from 0.007 to 0.5 mm, iodine or more compressed elements having a thickness of 0.23 mm or more, as measured by microcomputer tomography. 2. The wound contacting element according to claim 1, characterized in that it comprises: at least 95% of the compressed elements having a thickness of 0.007 to 0.5 mm, iodine or more compressed elements having a thickness of 0.23 mm or more, as measured microcomputer tomography. 3. An element in contact with a wound according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that at least 90% of the pores have a diameter of from 2.3 to 5.5 mm. A wound contacting element according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the wound contacting element has a pore size of 5 to 25 pores per inch. A wound contacting element according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that at least 10% of the compressed elements have a thickness of 0.23 mm or more. The element in contact with the wound according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that it has a compression deformation at minus 120 mm Hg. from about 50 to about 90% .7. An element in contact with a wound according to claim 1 or 2, characterized in that the compressed elements have a total surface area of 30 to 150 mm in 126 mm volume, as measured by microcomputer tomography.
