In a method and system, visual information is provided about a location of a volume of interest, VOI, having predetermined dimensions under a body surface of a human or animal body. A specific point associated with the VOI is located by detecting radiation from a radioactive marker at the specific point. The body surface is located by optically scanning the body surface. Relative positions of the VOI and the body surface are calculated based on the located specific point, the predetermined dimensions, and the located body surface. A virtual image showing the relative positions of the VOI and the body surface is displayed on a display device. The VOI may be a spherical volume having the specific point at its center. A viewing direction relative to the VOI may be determined, whereby the virtual image may be displayed showing the VOI and the body surface from the viewing direction.
