The vestibular substitute device includes a mouthpiece device that is shaped to fit the palate and is completely within a person's mouth. The mouthpiece houses the circuit board. The circuit board contains an electronic system that can transmit electrical pulses to the electrical stimulator based on head movement. The electrical stimulator is in contact with the palate. The electronic system includes a motion sensor, a control unit, a stimulation circuit, and a battery. The control unit is preferably a microcontroller and includes digital input / output functions, serial peripheral interface / integrated circuit calls, timers, and vibrators for sensor interface connection and timing control. A microcontroller can process the data from the accelerometer to indicate head movement and control each implantable electrical stimulator to transmit electrical pulses with adjustable waveform parameters.
