Disclosed is a plate (10) and a method for limb lengthening used in combination with the standard external fixator used for distraction histogenesis. The plate (10) comprises of holes (12) on distal end portion and holes (14) on proximal end portion for fixing the plate (10) at distal and proximal positions of planned corticotomy site respectively. One elongated slot (16) with unicortical screw is provided in between the holes (12) and the holes (14) for holding the plate (10) close to the bone during bone lengthening process. The invention provides a plate (10) and a method for limb lengthening with reduced external fixator duration and eliminates the risk of creating a deep intramedullary infection. Furthermore, present invention can also be used for limb lengthening in children with open physis and can be used in any age group of patients without any risk to damage the physis.
