An apparatus, system, and method for a hydraulic pump are disclosed. Specifically, a hydraulic pump for ophthalmic surgery is disclosed. A hydraulic pump within the scope of this disclosure may comprise a suction pump. The exemplary suction pump is operable to cause fluid to flow into the first portion of the hydraulic cylinder as the piston in the hydraulic cylinder moves in the first direction, and the piston is in the first direction. First and second hydraulic cylinders operable to cause fluid to flow out of the hydraulic cylinder in response to movement of the piston in a second direction opposite to, and a plurality of one-way valves. The suction pump can be attached to the housing of the handpiece or a portion of the suction pump can be housed within the housing of the handpiece.
