A low molecular weight chitosan (LMWC) with molecular weight of 20-40 kDa is applied to preparing a nutriment for patients with aristolochic acid-associated nephropathy or to manufacturing a pharmaceutical composition for treating aristolochic acid-associated nephropathy. The method for manufacturing the LMWC is as follows: providing a plant powder isolating an enzyme capable of decomposing high molecular weight chitosan from the plant powder through a protein purification procedure using the enzyme to decompose a high molecular weight chitosan for forming a hydrolysis solution mixing the hydrolysis solution with methanol at the same mixing ratio, and then performing a centrifugal treatment for forming a supernate and forming the LMWC through steps of removing the methanol in the supernate and lyophilization.一種低分子量幾丁聚醣,其分子量範圍為20 kDa至40 kDa,適用於製備一可供馬兜鈴酸腎病變患者食用之營養補充劑或製備一治療馬兜鈴酸腎病變之醫藥組合物。該低分子量幾丁聚醣之製造方法如下:提供一植物粉末;對該植物粉末實施一蛋白質純化程序以分離出一可分解幾丁聚醣的酵素;利用該可分解幾丁聚醣的酵素分解一高分子量的幾丁聚醣,以獲得一水解液;將該水解液與等量的甲醇混合並且經過離心處理使其分層之後,取上層液去除甲醇後再凍乾,以獲得低分子量幾丁聚醣。
