PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a molecular target for therapy and diagnosis of a patient of autoimmune disease and a patient of cancer, especially CS1, and further to provide an antagonist (including a neutralizing antibody such as anti-CS1 antibody) neutralizing the CS1 by bonding to the CS1.SOLUTION: The antagonist of the CS1 bonds to the CS1 and neutralizes at least one biological activity of the CS1. The pharmaceutical composition comprises such antibodies or antigen-binding fragments thereof. The method of preventing or treating disease states (including autoimmune disorders and cancer) in a subject in need thereof comprises a step of administering it to the subject an effective amount of such antagonists.
