Insect and mite repellent composition comprises at least two enantiomers comprising 1-[(S)-sec-butoxycarbonyl]-2-(S)-(2-hydroxyethyl)-piperidine (S,S), 1-[(R)-sec-butoxycarbonyl]-2-(R)-(+)-(2-hydroxyethyl)-piperidine (R,R), 1-[(S)-sec-butoxycarbonyl]-2-(R)-(+)-(2-hydroxyethyl)-piperidine (S,R), or 1-[(R)-sec-butoxycarbonyl]-2-(S)-(+)-(2-hydroxyethyl)-piperidine (R,S), where the racemate is exempt from this mixture. Independent claims are also included for: (1) production of (I) comprising optionally mixing 1 enantiomers of (S,S), (R,R), (S,R) or (R,S) with enantiomers of 2 or 3 in a solvent； and (2) preparation comprising (I), and optionally other active substances, excipients, solvents and/or dispersing agents, surfactant or other additives.
