The present application provides: a Down syndrome model rat characterized in that a rat gene homologous with at least one gene located on human chromosome 21 or a fragment thereof is a trisomy and can be passed to offspring, or a Down syndrome model rat characterized in that an exogeneous rat chromosome that carries human chromosome 21 or a fragment thereof or carries a rat gene homologous with human chromosome 21 or a fragment thereof, or a fragment of said exogeneous rat chromosome is included, and at least one gene located on the human chromosome 21 or a fragment thereof or said exogeneous rat chromosome or a fragment thereof and an endogenous rat gene homologous with said gene together form a trisomy and can be passed to offspring; and a method for producing said Down syndrome model rat.
