Discloses a method of diagnosing a fibrotic condition in vitro, said method including: i. assaying the amount of soluble VAP-1 (sVAP-1) or SSAO activity in a sample of bodily fluid, ii. comparing the amount of sVAP-1 or SSAO activity to the amount of sVAP-1 or SSAO activity in a reference bodily fluid, and iii. diagnosing fibrosis on the basis of said amount of sVAP-1 or SSAO activity, wherein a positive diagnosis is indicated by elevated levels of 10 sVAP-1 or SSAO activity in the sample of bodily fluid； and wherein said diagnosing includes determining the degree of fibrosis.
