Essence of the invention lies in the fact that the pipe is given a rotational-translational motion, magnetized by longitudinal and transverse fields simultaneously in two places of the tube the way the resultant vector of the magnetic field is directed in one place at an angle of 30–40 degrees relative to the vertical plane in which the pipe axis is located, and in the other at an angle of 50–60 degrees. In each of these places, above the surface of the pipe, a magnetically sensitive sensor is positioned so that the axis of its maximum sensitivity coincides with the direction of the resultant magnetic field vector.
