It particularly designs the mouthguard in a computer-aided design (CAD) software program based on three dimensional (3D) digital casts of the upper and lower jaws of the patient. The method includes an adjustable virtual articulator, which is used to place the lower jaws cast in a correct position in relation to the model of patients upper dentition. The CAD model of the mouthguard is developed in the CAD software program based on the patients upper and lower dentitions models.
