A siderail assembly for a bed, the bed having a patient support assembly, thesiderail assemblycomprising: a siderail disposed in a siderail plane a mounting member formounting to thepatient support assembly at least two parallel connecting arms, eachconnecting arm having afirst end pivotably connected to the mounting member and a second endpivotably connectedto the siderail, each connecting arm being adapted to pivot relative to thesiderail about a firstpivot axis and to pivot relative to the mounting member about a second pivotaxis to allow thesiderail to pivot along an arcuate path relative to the mounting member, thefirst and secondpivot axes being parallel to each other and angled relative to the siderailplane to allow thesiderail to move in a direction perpendicular to the siderail plane whenpivoting.
